- How do I know if my course has a rental textbook option available?
After entering your course information in the College Bookstore website, a rental option will appear in the list if your course offers a rental textbook.
- I’m only 17, can I rent my textbook?
Unfortunately, no. You must be 18 to be able to enter a legally binding contract. Therefore, you MUST be 18 to rent your textbooks.
- What type of payments are accepted for renting textbooks?
We accept cash, credit, check or your bookstore book advance for final payment of rental textbooks. Rental Guarantees MUST be in the form of a credit card (Visa, MC, AMEX or Discover) and cannot expire before the rental due date. Your financial aid CANNOT be used to guarantee your rental.
- How long is the rental period?
Textbooks are rented for ONE term. If you need to utilize the book for more than one term, you’ll need to rent each semester.
- Can I mark the inside of my book with a highlighter or make notes on the margins?
Normal use of highlighting and marking is permitted. The bookstore will use the same standards as a buyback when determining the condition of your textbook.
- What if I forget to return my rental book?
Rental textbooks not returned by the deadline will be charged the replacement value between the rental price and the purchase price. This charge will be placed on your rental guarantee tender used to rent your textbook.
- My rental was damaged. Will you still accept it back?
Rentals that are damaged will not be accepted back. Staff will inspect each rental return for normal wear and tear. Torn covers, missing pages, excessive highlighting and marking, water damage will not be accepted back and charges will incur.
- The college is currently closed. How do I get my rental back to the store on time?
Rental Returns can be shipped back to the store. We recommend shipping via UPS or FedEx, however, any mail service may be utilized. Please ship rental returns back to:

Books not received in the store by the due date will be considered late and charges will incur.
- What if I forget when a rental is due?
As a courtesy, a reminder email will be sent to your school email address. You may also access the latest information regarding rental returns here (link to rental information) Rental due dates are also listed on the rental sticker on the back of your textbook. It is your responsibility to ensure your rental textbooks are returned and received by the bookstore on the due date.
- Can I return my eBook?
eBooks can be returned within 14 days of purchase or if less than 10% of the book has been accessed.
- Can I print my eBook?
Yes, however printing rules and restrictions vary for each book. Make sure you check here.
- What software do I need to use my eBook?
Most eBooks will work with a wifi connection, however, check here to ensure you have everything you need for successful eBook viewing.
- Will my eBook expire?
Some eBooks do allow lifetime access, however, some books offer limited viewing. More information regarding your particular eBook can be found on RedShelf when accessing your eBook.
- What is direct digital access?
Direct Digital Access (DDA) is a fairly new textbook model for students in an effort to provide a more cost-effective option when going to class. In DDA courses, your textbook is paid for with your tuition, and provided to you in digital content through your class platform on CANVAS.
- How much does Direct Digital Access cost?
The cost of your DDA content will vary depending on course materials chosen by the instructor for the course. On average, most course content is priced about 50-70% less than the average textbook.
- How will I get my access code?
Your instructor will place a RedShelf link in your course modules allowing you to obtain access into your course materials.
- I’m not a fan of digital textbooks, can I opt out?
All students will have the option to opt out of the digital materials within the first ten days of their course beginning. If you choose to opt out, you will not be billed for your digital content, and your access will be turned off. Please note: If you choose to opt out of your digital content, you are responsible for obtaining the required materials on your own. The Bookstore DOES NOT carry physical textbooks for DDA courses.
