AACC and the AACC Bookstore have taken many steps to address the issue of course material affordability over the years. Here is a summary of our efforts:| Textbook Discount Program | Started in 1991, students have saved $2,803,811 to date and $325,452 just this year! |
| Textbook Rental Program | Started in 2010. We currently offer over 250 titles for rent at an average of 56% less than the purchase price. Students saved $31,687 in spring this year by renting! |
| Digital Textbooks Program | Started in 2008. Our Jumpbooks digital textbook program offers electronic versions of many textbooks at up to 45% less than the purchase price. |
| Textbook Buyback and Swap Programs |
We purchase textbooks from students year-round, offering up to 50% of the new textbook price. Also available on select titles, our Guaranteed Buyback program offers 60% of the new textbook price. Our website offers a textbook swap area, where students can buy, sell or swap textbooks directly peer-to-peer. |
| IMAC | AACC's Instructional Material Affordability Committee is comprised of students, staff, faculty and administrators. Their mission is to keep instructional material affordability at the forefront of the college community. |
| Open Textbook Resources | Several courses currently offered are using open textbooks, including some offered online for free with print copies available for less than $20. The AACC Bookstore is also a member of the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources and participates in the Open Textbooks Ning (links available on our faculty resources page). |
| Affordability Advocacy | Our website contains affordability strategies, guidelines and resources for students and faculty that help both groups make good decisions when choosing their instructional materials. |
| Smartphone Apps | The AACC Bookstore has two smartphone apps, one currently for Android devices and one coming soon for iPhones. These apps bring almost all of the functionality of our website right to your fingertips on the go, providing you the information you need to make good decisions. |
